Highlights:

  • The Westerville Electric Division is currently working on the installation of solar panels at the Westerville City Schools in cooperation with the Foundation for Environmental Education, which is pushing for an installation at each City School (14) over the next 2-3 years. The Division met with the Westerville School Board in August 1999 to get their blessing.
  • A solar panel array rated at approximately 1 kW will be installed at Longfellow Elementary School in Westerville. A location on the school grounds was selected aftger a solar insolation survey with the help of Energy Management Corporation, Columbus, Ohio. City permits are underway and all solar equipment is on-hand.
  • Westerville is interested in web site links to solar panel data (e.g. AEP's Datapult) or the ability to display the data on the site; Results of municipal energy efficiency studies and retrofits; programs being offered by other municipal systems.

Westerville Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy Programs:

  • Completion of the Longfellow Elementary School solar panel is expected on December 15, 1999. Contract services are performing a directional bore to provide an underground conduit path beneath asphalt from the proposed solar panel site to the school building. Data retrieved from the solar panel output will initially only be available at Longfellow Elementary. Internet access from the City of Westerville's website will be accomplished in early 2000.
