Updates:
Highlights:
- Limited implementation of energy efficiency projects by Cleveland Public Power (CPP) took place in 1998. CPP’s first effort was to reach lower income citizens or approximately 25% of Cleveland’s 200,000 households that are below the poverty level. CPP goals are to implement energy efficiency education that saves customers money; enhance CPP’s image as a full-service utility; and retain and expand CPP’s customer base.
- CPP developed an Energy 2000 giveaway kit and included energy saving tips in stuffers for 86,000 monthly bills.
- The Low Voltage Decorative Safety Lighting is an energy efficiency approach with 500 lights installed since the program began in 1998.
- New programs do not have to change budgeted expenditures for promotion- it is more a shift in theme and positioning. CPP helping low-income customers to use energy wisely will help them pay their bills and enhance CPP cash flow by reducing outstanding accounts receivable.
Cleveland Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy Programs:
- Energy 2000 Kits were distributed to residential customers. The kits include:
- Energy Efficiency Marketing includes use of trained presenters, collateral material and energy savings "freebies". Outreach by a Speakers Bureau includes presentations to Community Centers and Churches. CPP energy efficiency efforts have been part of 66 community events.
- School Partnerships are part of CPP’s approach as the City now oversees the Cleveland School System.
- Solar Power Demonstration is a potential CPP project in cooperation with the Great Lakes Science Center, Cleveland Botanical Gardens or other visible building using photovoltaic applications.
